The R&L New Orleans Bowl

On Friday I left from Cincinnati to fly down to New Orleans to shoot the R&L New Orleans Bowl. Both my writers and myself were very excited for this trip and for a chance to cover another bowl game. After being caught up in the city though, we had to collect ourselves on Saturday afternoon and acknowledge the fact that we still had a job to do. The Superdome was a great setting to shoot in despite the way the game went. My trip was an experience I will never forget. Below are some shots from the game. Enjoy.

It's that time of year again......

Last year Ohio's basketball season brought many great things for me. The friends, knowledge, and lessons I learned along the way will never be forgotten. Having been given the chance to cover the NCAA tournament before I was even out of my teenage years is an experience I will remember forever. Basketball has quickly grown to be one of my favorite things to shoot because of all the different things you can do with it. I enjoy exploring new ways to shoot it with different angles, lenses, and cameras. Although this may seem extremely nerdy, I cannot wait to see what this season has in store. Below is a shot from Ohio's regular season opener against Delaware.

Ohio vs Temple

During Ohio University’s finals week, Ohio ventured up to Philadelphia to take on Temple. The game at the time was thought to decide the winners of the MAC East, so like any good sports shooting enthusiast I volunteered to cover it for my paper. After an eight-hour drive, and some various pit stops, we pulled up to Lincoln Financial Field. Due to a lack of space in downtown Philadelphia, Temple has the privilege of playing in the Eagles stadium. I always enjoy entering a new arena or field, and immediately getting to go explore through the back passages that many never get to see. I had heard that rain was in the forecast earlier on in the week, but nothing could have prepared me for what was in store. The rain was relentless all evening, which caused a struggle to keep both myself, and my equipment dry. Ohio ended up beating Temple, who was favored to win, only to go on and blow their next game against Kent State. The images below are what I got out the very wet evening, while attempting to maintain both my mental focus and cameras at the same time. Enjoy.

Veterans Day

This is a quick post about my Veterans Day experience from a few weeks back. During that day, I was assigned to shoot a ceremony at the old Ridges Mental Institution. The ceremony was held to honor veterans, and to remember the veteran patients at the hospital. What was important about this day though, was not any of the pictures I took. It was the newly found respect I have for veterans, and what they do/did for this country. After sitting down and talking with a Vietnam veteran, I was truly speechless from his stories of the war. I cannot imagine after having fought for my county, to only come home to be met hate. Although my images from this day are not necessarily my best work, I will remember the experience forever

Ohio vs Walsh

Yesterday I shot my first basketball of the season. It was the Bobcats last exhibition game before they start their season, and it was good to see them back in action. I tried a new remote this game mounted to the back of the goal's post. I have to say I'm fairly happy with the results. Ohio won 78-64.

The Rally To Restore Sanity/Fear

This past weekend I went to Washington DC with some fellow photojournalists to attend the Rally To Restore Sanity/ The Rally To Keep Fear Alive. Seven of us ventured up to DC without any idea of what we should expect to see. As it turns out, hundreds of thousands of people did the same thing. Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert put on quite the show, and I even got to see my childhood hero Ozzy Osborne sing Crazy Train. I didn’t have a credential for the rally, so what shooting pictures was quite a challenge. These images should give you an idea of how many people were there. Enjoy.

USGP Derby City Cup

One year ago I shot cyclocross for the first time while home with mono. A year later I was excited to learn that the USGP was back again, and that I was scheduled to visit home while it was in Louisville. Cyclocross is one of my favorite things to shoot because of how close you can get, and all of the different creative devices you can use while shooting it. I hope to have yet another chance to shoot the sport again, and I have to admit I have a growing interest in it. Enjoy.

Ohio vs Ohio State

Yesterday I had the chance to shoot the Ohio vs. Ohio State football game. Although Ohio was beaten badly, it was still a great experience. Ohio Stadium is a truly electric atmosphere, and an all around great place to shoot a football game. The attendance was over 105,000 people, which gave me the chills every time the crowd came alive. Another good note from the day was getting to shoot Terrelle Pryor. The kid is one of the most versatile football players I have ever seen in my life, and is a favorite for this year’s Heisman Trophy. I can’t wait to have another chance to shoot Ohio State, and maybe the Bobcats will be a little more prepared for the Buckeyes in the future. Cheers.
